Investigación

George Vagenas is an Aquatic Biologist (BSc-AUTh; 2019) with background in Hydrology/Hydraulic Engineering (MSc-NTUA; 2022) and he works as a Predoctoral Investigator in the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC; Spanish National Research Council). Additionally, he is a PhD student of UIMP under the supervision of Prof. Miguel B. Araujo and Dr. Miguel Matias. He is mainly focused on investigating complex ecological interactions and spatial-temporal dynamics between biotic and abiotic proxies across aquatic ecosystems.

 

 

He has worked as a Research Assistant at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (IMBRIW-HCMR; 2019-2024; Athens-GR) and at the National Technical University of Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Laboratory of Ecohydraulics (2021-2022; Athens-GR) in projects related to marine and freshwater field works/sampling, ecological data analysis and environmental numerical modeling/simulations. He is also serving as an instructor at the Environmental Ecology and Conservation Group in the Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Nigeria and Ghana which aims to promote scientific expeditions and research initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

 

Throughout the years he has worked in Mediterranean and North African marine and freshwater ecosystems and he managed to publish 10 (8/10 lead as first author) and 19 (15/19 lead as first author) peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals and conferences, respectively, including the Science of the Total Environment, Nature Scientific Reports, Fisheries Research, Marine Biology Research, Water and the Journal of Freshwater Ecology.
